RULES & POLICY’S
To ensure a safe, enjoyable, and professional environment, we kindly ask all students, parents, and guardians to adhere to the following studio rules and policies.
General Studio Etiquette
• Treat the studio, equipment, and facilities with care. Food, drinks (except water), and gum are not allowed in the dance area.
• Parents and/or Carers of children aged 2-6 years must remain in the Studio in order to take children to the toilet.
• All children must be collected by their parent or carer from the foyer. Children are not permitted leave the studio on their own.
• Arrive 5 - 10 minutes before class to allow time to prepare. Late arrivals disrupt the flow of the class.
• Be kind and courteous to instructors, staff, and fellow students. Disruptive behaviour will not be tolerated.
• Follow the specific attire requirements for each class. Hair must be neatly tied back, and uniforms must be worn.
• Consistent attendance is essential for progression. Notify the studio in advance if a class will be missed.
• Missed classes can be made up within the same term only once, subject to availability and instructor approval.
Safety and Health
• Students and Parents must notify the instructor of any injuries or medical conditions before class. Sick students should stay home to prevent the spread of illness.
• Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated. Only water is allowed in the studio.
Parent/Guardian Responsibilities
• Ensure your child is dropped off early before class and picked up promptly afterward. The studio is not responsible for supervising students outside of class time.
• Parents are welcome to observe classes during designated observation days. For regular classes, please wait in the designated area to minimize distractions. Under certain circumstances alternate accommodations will be made to Parents of 2 and 3 year old according to how the child is coping.
• Please do not hold the Teachers up chatting during Class time, our time is limited for our instructors and every moment that we can spend with your little ones is very valuable. Ensure that if you need to talk to a teacher, you do it prior to classes beginning or feel free to contact the Studio to arrange a time to talk or email pt.dancestudio@gmail.com
Dance Uniform Expectations
• All students are required to wear the designated uniform for their class to ensure safety, comfort, and a professional appearance.
• Uniforms must fit properly and allow for unrestricted movement.
• Ballet Attire: In ballet, we want our little Ballerina’s wearing a Leotard, Stockings and a Skirt, with Ballet Slippers
• Acro/Jazz/Lyrical/Contemporary: For any of these Classes we are happy for the children to wear any combination of the uniform that feels good them.
Dance Shoes: Appropriate footwear must be worn for each class; we will make exceptions for the first few weeks as children settle into their class.
Ballet: Ballet slippers (pink)
Jazz: Jazz shoes (black)
Contemporary: Barefoot, toe undies or dance socks with grippy pads
Acro: Barefoot
Tap: Bloch Tap On
• Shoes must be clean and in good condition.
• Hair Neatly Tied Back: Hair must be secured away from the face to ensure clear visibility and prevent distractions. Do not wear hair out.
• Other styles (e.g., ponytail, braid)
For safety reasons, students should not wear jewellery during class (e.g., hanging earrings, necklaces, bracelets) Teachers will ask students to remove them and pop them with their belongings
• Maintenance: Please wash uniforms in a underwear bag to ensure the logos remain tidy. Uniforms and shoes should be clean and well-maintained, reflecting respect for the studio and fellow dancers.
These expectations help create a focused, professional, and safe learning environment for all students.
Payment and Enrolment
• An annual registration fee of $40 applies, if your family has multiple children, siblings can register for $20 each.
• Tuition fees are due in full by the Second class of each term. Late payments will incur a fee of $10.
• Refunds for missed classes are not provided. Exceptions may apply for long-term medical absences, at the discretion of the studio.
• At Pretty Things Dance Studio, we understand that families may occasionally need flexibility with payments, and we are always happy to work together where possible. All invoices are required to be paid by the due date stated on the invoice.
• If you are experiencing financial difficulty or require a payment arrangement, please contact us before the invoice due date so we can organise a suitable payment plan.
• Accounts that remain unpaid for more than 7 weeks overdue and where no communication or payment arrangement has been made may be referred to a debt collection agency for recovery of the outstanding amount.
• Ongoing non-payment may also result in suspension of classes, performances, competitions, or enrolment until the account is brought up to date.
Photo and Video Release
• By registering, parents consent to the studio using photos/videos of students for promotional purposes unless specified otherwise on the registration form. If we have been notified otherwise it is the responsibility of the student/parent to step aside from announced group photos if they do not wish to participate.
Performances and Costumes
• Participation in performances is optional but encouraged. Additional fees for costumes and tickets will be communicated in advance.
• Parents are responsible for the care and maintenance of costumes.
Behaviour Expectations
• Students are expected to participate with a positive and respectful attitude. Bullying, disruptive behaviour, or disrespect toward instructors or peers will result in disciplinary action.
• Listen to instructions, stay focused during class, and give your best effort.
• Pretty Things Dance Studio is very inclusive and if there are special needs, we apply understanding and Patience to such Children, and this will be taken into consideration.
Bathroom & Toileting Policy
At Pretty Things Dance Studio, student safety, wellbeing, privacy, and dignity are prioritised at all times.
Dance teachers and staff understand that children may require assistance, supervision, or permission to access bathroom facilities during classes. Procedures are implemented in a manner that supports child safety while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
• For younger dancers, particularly students aged approximately 2–7 years, Parents are required to remain in the Studio waiting room, a staff member will escort younger dancers to their parent or guardian in order for them to supervise them during bathroom breaks.
• Younger students may be escorted to the bathroom area by a staff member where appropriate for safety purposes.
• Students aged 7 and above will need permission and will be supervised by a staff member from within the foyer, as it would not be necessary for a staff member to enter the bathroom.
• Staff will avoid being alone with a child in enclosed bathroom spaces.
• Teachers and staff will not enter toilet cubicles with students unless there is an emergency, immediate safety concern, or the child requires urgent assistance.
• Where practical, verbal consent and communication will be used before assisting younger students.
• Students are encouraged to use bathroom facilities prior to class commencement where possible.
Child Collection Policy
• For student safety and supervision purposes, all students must be collected from inside the studio premises by a parent, guardian, or authorised adult. Students are not permitted to wait outside the studio unsupervised before or after class.
• A teacher or staff member will supervise students until they are visibly collected by their parent or authorised caregiver.
• Parents and guardians are encouraged to arrive promptly at class conclusion times to support smooth and safe student collection procedures.
Communication
• Direct all inquiries or notifications (e.g., absences, injuries) to the studio Studio Director via phone, email, or the designated communication platform.

Acknowledgment of Rules and Policies
Pretty Things Dance Studio's rules and policies form is signed upon either digital registration or paper registration.
Participation & Acknowledgment of Risk
I, the parent or legal guardian, acknowledge that participation in dance classes, rehearsals, performances, competitions, workshops, studio events and related activities conducted by Pretty Things Dance Studio involves inherent physical risk. these risks may include, but are not limited to muscle soreness, strains, sprains, falls, impact injuries, fatigue and other injuries associated with physical movement and dance activities such as Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, Lyrical and Acro dance.
I understand that while the studio and teaching staff take reasonable precautions to provide a safe dance environment and implement safe dance practices, not all risk can be eliminated
Voluntary Participation & Medical Responsibility
I confirm that my child is voluntarily participating in dance activities and is physically and medically fit to do so.
I agree to inform the studio of any medical conditions, injuries, allergies, behavioural concerns, learning support needs, medications, or physical limitations that may affect my child’s safe participation in classes or studio activities.
I understand that it is my responsibility to ensure my child follows all studio rules, safety expectations, and instructions provided by teaching staff.
Safe Dance and Following Instruction
I acknowledge that dance instruction may involve physical correction, demonstration, or guidance for educational and safety purposes. Teaching Staff will always aim to provide this appropriately, professionally and respectfully.
I understand that students are expected to participate safely, follow warm-up procedures, use appropriate footwear and attire, and comply with all safe dance instructions provided by staff. Failure to follow instructions may increase the risk of injury.
Assumption of Risk
To the extent permitted by law, I acknowledge that participation in dance activities in undertaken at our own risk, and I accept responsibility for any injury, loss or damage that may occur as a result of those inherent risks.
Release & Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted under the Queensland Law and the Australian Consumer Law, I agree to release and hold harmless Pretty Things Dance Studio, its owners, instructors, employees, volunteers, and contractors from liability for injury, loss, or damage arising from participation in dance classes or related activities, except where such liability cannot legally be excluded.
Emergency Medical Consent
In the event of illness, accident or injury, and where a parent or guardian cannot be contacted promptly, I authorise studio staff to obtain appropriate medical assistance for my child, including ambulance transport if deemed necessary.
I accept responsibility for any medical, ambulance, or related costs incurred.
Personal Property
The Studio is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal belongings bought onto the studio premises or the the studio events, competitions, or performances.
Behaviour & Participation Expectation
The studio reserves the right to refuse participation or remove a student from activities where behaviour is unsafe, disruptive, inappropriate, or poses a risk to themselves or others.
